On June 11, Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft was successfully launched. It has been 10 years since China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into the space. Compared with previous manned spacecrafts, what are Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft’s differences and advantages?

Mature space technologies have promoted technological advancement

"Once the manned spacecraft succeeds, the technology will be gradually refined to ensure product quality," said Wang Yizhi from the Modle Unit of Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology.

After technology gets mature and production process stabilizes, a lot of equipment can be massly produced. Costs of spacecraft will decrease and quality will improve, and the development cycle will be shortened accordingly. Along with the optimization of the test process, the testing efficiency of spacecraft will be much higher.

An expert from the Modle Unit of Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology said before the Shenzhou-7 spacecraft was launched, they had to stay at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center for at least three months. But they only needed to stay two months for Shenzhou-8 and Shenzhou-9 manned spacecrafts mission.

Civil use of the space technology becomes new power driving technical breakthrough

The Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft has taken on about 30 scientific experiments, twice as many as the Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft mission.

The conversion efficiency of Shenzhou-10 spacecraft’s solar cell reaches 26 percent, which is at the advanced level worldwide. If this technology can be further developed with a lower cost, it will change our life greatly.

Based on stringent requirements of spacecraft, China has also developed a number of cutting-edge lube oil products. These techniques have also been widely used in automobiles, household appliances and other civilian areas in order to meet increasingly lubrication demanding for devices.

In addition, because of the high requirements of material, new materials, new technologies have been developed during the research. According to reports, 80 percent of more than 1,100 kinds of new materials China have developed recently are completed under the aerospace technology development.
