BFSU to strengthen cooperation with Ireland

Irish Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform, Brendan Howlin T.D., visited Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) this morning, and gave a speech titled “Ireland’s economic recovery within the Euro Area”. Both sides talked about the future cooperation in terms of Irish study and research. They also agreed to promote the Irish study in China so as to boost the understanding and exchange between the two peoples.

Professor Yang Xueyi, Chairman of the University Council of BFSU, made a welcome speech to the delegation. He introduced that BFSU is now teaching more than 60 foreign languages, including all the EU official languages. He also mentioned that Irish study in China is a very important subject with great potential. BFSU will strengthen the support to this field from comprehensive aspects including talents cultivation and cultural exchanges. Moreover, BFSU will try to set up a nation-wide network on Irish study, and turn the Irish Studies Centre into a significant bridge linking the academic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Howlin highly appreciated the work BFSU has done to promote the development of Irish study in China since the establishment of Irish Studies Centre.

He also witnessed the signing ceremony between BFSU and the Embassy of Ireland in China on the “Memorandum of Understanding in Relation to Support to the Beijing Foreign Studies University Irish Studies Center”. The MoU aims to expand the cooperation between the two countries, to promote cultural exchanges, and to help the people understand more about each other.
