The Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday directed the government to release all the persons arrested by police during the military operation against a radical mosque in the country's capital till Monday if they are not involved in major crimes.
The court ordered Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Chaudhry Muhammad Ali to ensure the bail of all the persons detained under section 188 as early as possible.
Deputy Attorney General Tariq Khokhar said that the government had submitted a detailed report regarding the persons injured, dead, detained and released in the incident.
However, the court noted, the information given in the report is not complete as the names of the persons are not given in the report.
The court directed the government to file a comprehensive statement in the court of the injured, dead, detained and released people.
Khokhar informed the court that 629 males were arrested during the operation and out of whom 386 had been released.
He said that 241 men are in the judicial custody and two others were on physical remand.
He added that 465 women had come out of Lal Masjid, or the red mosque, and all of them except one had reached their homes.
He also informed the court that three women, wife of the arrested chief of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz, Umme Hassan, and his two daughters, were detained under section 224.
The deputy attorney general informed the court that overall 102 persons died in the operation, out of whom 91 were civilians, 10 army personnel and one belonged to rangers.
He further said that 248 persons were injured in the incident and out of them 204 were civilians, 41 were army personnel and three belonged to rangers.
