Less than a week after the Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated their South African counterparts, the Banyana Banyana, the two sides are set to meet again towards next year's Olympics.
Nigeria crushed South Africa 4-0 to win the gold medal of women's soccer at the just concluded All Africa Games in Algiers.
The Olympic qualifier will take place this weekend at the Abuja National Stadium. At stake is Africa's only slot for the women's soccer event in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The Falcons, who arrived from Algiers on Tuesday, vowed to beat the South Africans convincingly in Abuja so that the second leg in Johannesburg in the next two weeks would be a mere formality.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesay, head coach of the team Joseph Ladipo said his girls were ever ready for the South Africans.
According to the coach, since the introduction of female soccer in the Olympic Games, Nigeria has been representing Africa. South Africa and Ghana have tried to beat the Falcons but failed in all past attempts.
In 2003, Nigeria defeated South Africa 1-0 to win the All Africa Games gold medal. Some months later, South Africa lost 1-0 again to the Falcons in the final leg of Athens 2004 Olympic Games qualifier at the same venue after playing 1-1 draw in Johannesburg.
Nigeria defeated Algeria 6-1 last month in Abuja to enter the group stage of the Olympic Games qualifier.
