100,000 hectares of land damaged by flood in Nepal

The landslides and rain in different parts of Nepal inundated about 100,000 hectares of agricultural land and damaged the property worth millions of Nepali rupees, Ministry of Agricultural and Co-operatives said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the floods in Banke district in mid- western development region damaged paddy, maize, lentil, vegetable, sesame and also affected fisheries spread in about 1,800 hectares.

The floods damaged agricultural products worth 156 million Nepali rupees (2.4 million U.S. dollars), the ministry spokesman Hari Dahal informed.

Similarly, the floods in the district damaged 50 coops killing about 30,000 chickens, 12,000 goats were killed and submerged the grazing land spread in about 80 hectares, he said.

He said that the details of floods and landslides have not arrived from 45 districts yet.

He further said that the government has a plan to provide agricultural subsidy to the flood affected people.
