Peace jirga to strengthen Afghan-Pak ties: Karzai

Afghan President Hamid Karzai Saturday telephoned Pakistani Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, hoping that the joint peace jirga would further strengthen relations and promote friendship between the two countries, the interior ministry said.

Sherpao was the chairman of the Pak-Afghan peace jirga held in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Aug. 9-12.

Karzai thanked the Pakistani minister for the successful holding of the joint peace jirga and said that it was the result of the wisdom and the leadership shown by him which reflected the affection with Pashtoon.

He said that it was an ample proof that Pakistan was making sincere efforts for establishing peace and progress and prosperity for the people of Afghanistan.

Karzai said that he was hopeful that after the successful holding of Pak-Afghan peace jirga, the relations and friendship between the two countries would further strengthen in future.

Sherpao also thanked the Afghan president for according warm welcome in Afghanistan and the hospitality during his stay.

He said that the credit also went to the Afghan president for his sincere efforts in holding the Pak-Afghan jirga.
