Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wednesday had a meeting with Yuan Longping, a non-party-affiliation person and agriculturist known as "Father of Cross Bred Paddy".

Jia spoke highly of Yuan's contribution to food safety in China and the world, urging all Chinese intellectuals and non-party-affiliation people to learn from him.

Over the past five decades, Yuan has devoted himself to China's agricultural science, by successfully crossbreeding paddy and achieving over 800 kilograms of paddy per mu (one mu is 1/15 of hectare), said Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau.

Yuan said he plans to reach the goal of 900 kg per mu by the year 2010.

Present were Liu Yandong and Xu Kuangdi, vice chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee.
