Zambian national soccer team captain Christopher Katongo has said that securing qualification for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana was not easy and hailed the results as one of the greatest of his time.
Times of Zambia Thursday quoted him as saying here Wednesday that "we are excited to have qualified to the Africa Cup. I must admit that it was not easy to sail through all the qualifiers but we were determined and thank God all went well. What has remained now is to prepare adequately for the big tournament."
Before departure for his Denmark base the three-goal hero in the Sunday match against South Africa in Cape Town he said that the team needs adequate preparations ahead of the tournament in Ghana.
He thanked the government for its continued support to the national team saying that the " government is always with us and we hope all other stakeholders will come in with full support."
"That was indeed a great game. We taught South Africa a lesson and it was fantastic. We did it for Zambia. Everybody was confident and the coach insisted that we do it in the early minutes of the game. I am the happiest person to have done it for the country," he said.
The Zambian national soccer team player Chirstopher Katongo has been elevated to sergeant in Zambia Army, following his excellence in the 3-1 victory over South Africa last Sunday.
The soccer team captain, who was a corporal before his treble in Sunday's must-win qualifier sent Zambia to next year's Africa Cup of Nations, was quoted as saying that the Army's decision is a clear indication that his hard work is being appreciated and pledges to continue working hard.
