Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to Yasuo Fukuda over his victory in the election of prime minister of Japan.

In his letter of congratulation, Lee said Fukuda's resounding victory in the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presidential election affirms strong support and trust from his party.

Lee said Singapore and Japan have developed long-standing ties over the past decades.

As the current Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chair, Lee said Singapore looks forward to working with Japan to build a more cohesive and vibrant ASEAN-Japan relation.
