President Hu Jintao reached Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido, yesterday to attend the Outreach Session of the G8 Summit tomorrow in the northern Japanese resort of Toyako.

Hu will attend a group meeting with leaders of India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico in Sapporo today, Chinese diplomats said.

In Toyako, leaders of G8 nations and China and the seven other invitee countries will discuss the burning issues across the world such as the global economy, climate change, food security and energy security.

The Group of Eight comprises the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Japan and Russia.

Hu will attend the Major Economies Meeting on Energy Security and Climate Change, too, tomorrow.

Japan, as host of the G8 Summit, has invited Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea and South Africa to the gathering because the group has extensive links and dialogue with developing countries.
