According to the reports, Zhan Furui, director of the National Library of China, has announced that after more than three years of construction, the second phase of the National Library of China, the National Digital Library of China project, will be opened for trial operation on September 9 and officially welcome readers. By then, the area of the National Library of China will expand to 250,000 square meters.
The National Library of China will adopt a series of new technologies and new services, such as a wireless network that provides the entire library with coverage. Readers can bring their laptops and get wireless internet access in any area of the library. Radio frequency identification technology (RFID) will be introduced as well as self-service system for borrowing and returning books. Readers will be provided with a mobile handheld electronic reader; and electronic reading stations will be set up in the library, so that readers who come to the library can easily access e-books, electronic journals, electronic newspapers, and more. The library will include specialized service areas for the visually impaired. Those with visual disabilities can use the computer's voice controlled system, and through a digital library for the blind, to access digital information resources.
