On December 3, the World Bank in China announced that the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors has recently approved a loan of 120 million dollars to China for the support and development of ecological agriculture.
This project will benefit rural residents of the four provinces Anhui, Hunan, Guangxi and Hubei, and Chongqing Municipality, by helping them improve the rural environment and living conditions. The World Bank loan accounts for half of the total investment of the project, with the remaining costs being contributed through domestic funds.
The ecological agriculture project will help rural residents integrate biogas into the agricultural production system, which will improve the environment and environmental quality, enhance the efficiency of agricultural production, and raise rural residents' living conditions. The loan will be used to build biogas digesters, and to improve kitchens, animal sheds and toilet facilities in households. The project will also help to strengthen and expand the existing rural energy and the agricultural promotion service system, while also helping to achieve the sustainable operation and maintenance of the system.
