The East Junggar Basin has become the largest coalfield in China. This is based on its proven coal reserves of 213.6 billion tons which was prospected by the geological prospecting and mining departments in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region over five years.
The East Junggar Basin, one of the largest four coal bases in Xinjiang, has predicted coal reserves of 390 billion tons, and it is also known as the "Coal Sea".
The East Junggar Basin has gradually brought in 25 large domestic enterprises since 2004, with around 1.1 billion yuan invested in prospecting projects within 33 prospecting areas, covering a total area of 4,486 square kilometers.
