Chinese Premier's expressions in face of disaster
|
Less than two hours after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Wenchuan County in northwestern Sichuan on Monday at 2:28 pm, Premier Wen Jiabao visited disaster areas to inspect and oversee rescue operations.
At every stop, the Premier's presence and words of encouragement have continued to reassure victims that no effort was being spared to deal with the disaster.
"If only there is the slightest hope, we will spare no effort; if only there is one survivor in the debris, we will not give up," he said.
To the bodies of victims temporarily placed on the school yard, Wen bowed three times as he had done at the funeral of three technicians who died while repairing damaged electricity transmission lines in the winter disaster early this year.
The 66-year-old Premier fell and was hurt during an inspection in the quake-hit area. However, in order to rescue people still in danger, he refused a medical worker who wanted to patch him up.
