With the joining of Beijing and Fujian, in 2008 there were 11 provinces and municipalities with GDP exceeding 1 trillion yuan in China.
In 2007, the individual GDPs of eight provinces and one municipality in China mainland exceeded 1 trillion yuan. They were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan, Hebei, Shanghai, Liaoning and Sichuan. Of them, the GDPs of Liaoning and Sichuan exceeded 1 trillion yuan for the first time in 2007.
Reporters learned that the fact that many provinces and municipalities have seen their GDP exceed 1 trillion yuan reflects an increase in the overall wealth of many provinces. The increase in the number of members in the "GDP trillion club" is occurring during a time when China's economy is growing strongly. In 2008, even whilst China suffered from a snow disaster, an earthquake and the economic crisis, Beijing and Fujian still saw their GDPs exceed 1 trillion yuan, which, according to experts, demonstrates that China's economy has constantly maintained stable growth.
