China has set up a state level headquarters to ensure the security of the forthcoming Olympics in Beijing, said a senior official of the Games' organizing committee on Wednesday.

The headquarters groups the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Public Security, and armed forces, while plans have been drafted for any emergencies during the event, said Liu Jingmin, executive vice president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and vice mayor of Beijing.

China has also enhanced exchanges and coordination with foreign securities organizations, and stepped up trainings for security staffs, said Liu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on the sidelines of the top political advisory body's annual session..

"We believe security could be ensured during the Beijing Olympic Games," he said.
