KMT chairman visits Chinese Taipei delegation in Olympic Village

Wu Poh-hsiung, chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Party, paid a visit to the Chinese Taipei delegation on Saturday in the Beijing Olympic Village, promising to watch a baseball preliminary of the Chinese Taipei team.

Wu arrived at the Olympic Village at around 10 a.m. Saturday, where he was greeted by Mayor of the Village Chen Zhili, also vice president of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games.

Deng Yaping, four-time Olympic table tennis champion and spokesperson of the Olympic Village, accompanied Wu to tour the Village before visiting the Chinese Taipei delegation.

Wu presented the delegation with 200,000 New Taiwan Dollars of cash subsidy and 10 boxes of teas, and wished the athletes success at the Games.

Later on, Wu and his wife posed for a group photo with the Chinese Taipei softball team.

The environment of the Olympic Village is very good, said Wu, who wished the Beijing Olympics "a great success."

The KMT chairman spoke highly of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games which he attended on Friday night, calling it "a stunning experience unforgettable in a lifetime." The ceremony well demonstrated the Chinese culture of several thousand years and boasted great originality, he added.

The Chinese Taipei Delegation consists of 133 members including 80 athletes. They will compete in 15 sports, with advantages in softball, baseball, taekwondo and archery.
