China's central government is to arrange another round of talks with the private representatives of the Dalai Lama "in the near future" at the request of the Dalai Lama side.

The third meeting with the Dalai Lama's representatives would be held despite the Lhasa riot in March and serious disruptions and sabotage to the Beijing Olympic Games by a handful of "Tibet independence" secessionists, an official said.

The government hoped the Dalai Lama's delegation would "treasure this opportunity and make a positive response to the requirements set forth by the central authorities", he said.

Government representatives met with envoys of the Dalai Lama previously in May and again in July.

During the meeting in July, the Dalai Lama's representative accepted the central government's requirements, namely, not to support activities to disturb the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, not to support plots to fan violent criminal activities, not to support and concretely curb the violent terrorist activities of the pro-secession "Tibetan Youth Congress", and not to support any argument and activity to seek "Tibetan independence" and split the region from the country.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at Tuesday's regular press conference that the central government always adhered to consistent, explicit policies towards the Dalai Lama, and adopted a sincere attitude in communicating with him.

"We hope by contacts with the central government, the Dalai Lama can recognize the existing situation, exert tangible sincerity and action, and do good for the Tibetan people in his lifetime," she said.
