Huang Qifan elected Chongqing mayor

Huang Qifan was elected mayor of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality at the third municipal People's Congress Tuesday.

Huang, born in May 1952 and from east China's Zhejiang Province, had been vice mayor of Chongqing from Oct. 2001 to Dec. 2009 and served as acting mayor and vice secretary of the Chongqing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China since Dec. 2009.

Huang started working in 1968 at a Shanghai coking plant and joined the Communist Party in March, 1976.

He got his Master of Business Administration degree from the China Europe International Business School in Dec. 1999 while serving as deputy secretary general of Shanghai Municipal Government.
