To date, 80.49% of the academicians at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 77.61% of the presidents of universities under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, 77.65% of the directors of key state-level laboratories and teaching and research bases, and 94% of “Yangtze River Scholars” have studied abroad in the past. This is learned from the Symposium for Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening-up & the Work of Expanding the Scale of Sending Students Studying Abroad held on December 24th in Beijing.
Lu Yongxiang, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, pointed out at the symposium that the task of importing overseas high-level talents should be regarded as an important part in China’s efforts to attract professionals, and the introduction of overseas talent should be implemented as a strategic measure to promote reform and opening-up and scientific development. China needs to further liberating their way of thinking, seizing opportunities, implementing strategies in an integrated way, and forming joint efforts to energetically attract overseas high-level talents to return to China to work, and serve the country.
