Communist Party of China (CPC) cadres in the central province of Henan will receive comic books as a Spring Festival gift, and more importantly as a reminder to keep away from graft.

The comic books, of which 100,000 would be distributed by the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, included anti-corruption policies, maxims and aphorisms about clean government. There was also caricatures that depicted common forms of graft and bribery.

The pocket-sized books would be distributed before the Chinese New Year that falls in February, according to Ye Qingchun, the commission head.

"The Chinese New Year is a crucial time to test if the Party cadres are incorruptible," said Ye at the inaugural ceremony on Tuesday in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital. "The pocket comic books can constantly remind them to keep a close lookout for any possible wrongdoing."

The Party had prohibited cadres to accept bribes in cash, stocks, checks or other forms of payment certificates. It had also banned soliciting bribes in the name of holding wedding or funeral banquets, or even gambling, Ye said.

Published jointly by the discipline inspection commission and Henan Daily newspaper group, the books were printed in a size that could be easily pocketed.
