The Sichuan Provincial Economic Commission has just released figures revealing that up-scale enterprises in the province achieved an added value of 30.5 billion yuan in June, an increase of four percent. With support from Panzhihua, Leshan, Zigong, and other undamaged or slightly affected areas, the industrial added value of up-scale enterprises' is expected to grow approximately 19 percent over the first half of the year, according to Sichuan Daily.
Although a seriously damaged area, Chengdu has achieved 24.6 percent in industrial added value, ranking second in increased growth throughout the province. This result could not be possible without help from 17 slightly affected cities and counties. Preliminary statistics show that by June 27, five out of 3,166 up-scale enterprises were still unable to resume operation in Chengdu. Despite this, the production capability of industrial enterprises in these areas has already returned to 102.7 percent that of pre-earthquake production. In the seriously affected area of Mianyang, people have witnessed accelerated development.
After the earthquake, with the exception of those in six seriously disaster-stricken areas, industrial economic growth in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Bazhong City, and 13 cities (prefectures) in Sichuan is expected to increase by a percentage point. At present, among the province's up-scale enterprises industrial enterprises in disaster areas, 82 percent of them have resumed production partially or entirely.
