Top meteorologists from the US, Australia, Canada, and Japan will work with their Chinese colleagues, including those from Hong Kong, on weather information services during the Beijing Olympics.
At a press conference held on July 15 by the Beijing International Media Center - one of three Olympic press centers - Chen Zhenlin, an official from the China Meteorological Administration, revealed that a demonstration project for the weather information service for the Beijing Olympics has been launched under the framework of the World Meteorological Organization by the Beijing Olympic Meteorology Service Center.
Such international cooperation, said Chen, began at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and will continue in future host cities.
Chen believes that the project will not only improve China's weather forecasts, but also set a good example for global meteorological cooperation.
