3 firefighters killed, 9 injured in Shanghai plastic packaging plant fire |

Three firefighters were killed while attempting to put out a fire at a plastic packaging factory on Thursday in Shanghai. Nine other firefighters were injured.
The blaze broke out at around 12:20 p.m. in the storehouses of Rexam Plastic Packaging (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. in Fengxian District, according to the municipal firefighting and work safety departments.
The injured firefighters were sent to hospital.
Residents in nearby communities had been evacuated.
Thick clouds of smoke could be seen on the pictures of the fire posted on the website sh.eastday.com.
The city's environment monitoring authorities were also at the site to monitor the air quality as the smoke from the burning plastic materials might be harmful.
A total of 50 fire engines were still struggling to put out the raging fire by 6 p.m..
