On August 4, the city transportation committee held a press conference on the transportation system during the Beijing Olympics. During the Olympics, Chinese and foreign tourists can obtain accurate transportation information through four different methods.
On that day, the Beijing Olympic traffic website went online. It is part of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Communications website, and it uses pictures and tables to show routes leading to Olympic venues. Spectators can download and print these routes.
The transportation services hotline, 96166, provides 20 types of information about public buses, the subway system, IC cards, highways, and long-distance transportation. People in the city can dial this number before they leave for their destination.
The Beijing Transportation Information Center and Beijing Mobile have launched a travel information service for cell phone users. Through this service, cell phone users can quickly receive text messages with real-time road conditions information. Users who have web access on their phones can download real-time road conditions information concerning roads and bridges all over the city.
For cell phone users who cannot access this service easily, they can call Beijing Mobile's 12580 hotline to obtain information.
