Chinese senior leader He Guoqiang on Thursday called on government leaders to pay more attention to people's complaints and make practical efforts to solve people's problems.

In a written instruction forwarded to a meeting on improving hotline service to comment government work style, He asked government leaders to expand more channels to solicit public opinions and tackle difficult problems of the people.

The public should offer constructive advice and suggestions for the government, said He, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Staff in government departments should be committed to their duties so as to serve as bridges to link the people and the government, he stressed.

People from all social circles can make constructive criticism on government work via telephone hotlines in China. So far, 93.7 percent of the cities in the country have launched such service.
