Free HIV/AIDS treatment in China has achieved substantial progress, with 58,000 patients having received treatment.
At present, there are 41,700 patients receiving treatment, which represents 20 percent of the total number of diagnosed HIV-positive people, said Wang Longde, President of China Preventive Medicine Association and the former Deputy Minister of Health at a news conference held by the Chinese representative office of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS. The anti-virus treatment is one key measure in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in China. In 2003, following the introduction of the "Four Free-of-Charge and One Care" policy, the free HIV/AIDS treatment program was officially launched. By October 30 last year, the combat HIV treatment works have been carried out in China's 1,190 counties in 31 provinces (including autonomous regions and municipalities).
