Since reform and opening-up was initiated 30 years ago, China's urbanization rate has risen from around 20% to 44.9%, with the urban population reaching 590 million.
Construction as a result of urbanization has already become an important means in promoting China's economic growth and social progress.
These comments were made by Chen Dawei, vice minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, during the 'Urban Development Nanchang Forum' on November 16.
This year's forum is organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Nanchang's city committee and the Party School of Jiangxi's provincial committee. Around 500 domestic and foreign experts and officials from dozens of cities attended the forum.
