A sophomore of the University of Macao has been arrested by local police and will be charged with arson after he torched the scooter that belonged to his classmate, the Macao Daily Times reported on Wednesday.
The suspect, a 21-year-old local resident and surnamed Sou, was arrested by the police at his home on Tuesday. The daily quoted Macao's Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chau Wai Kuong as saying that the suspect found the scooter of his classmate, a girl, parked next to the basketball ground in the afternoon of May 16, and he later lighted scooter on fire with kerosene. The scooter, worth about 10,000 patacas (1266 U.S. dollars), was completely burnt down.
Chau also said that the arson was reported in the midnight of May 16 near a basketball ground.
Following investigation, the PJ has found that the owner of the scooter had a dispute with one of her classmates regarding study and university assignment, according to the daily.
