The Ministry of Health will draw up a new set of food safety standards to establish a national system, said Chen Rui, senior official of the ministry, on July 13.

Chen said that the ministry will organize investigations on the maximum limited standards for contaminants in food, mycotoxins, food additives, disease-causing micro-organisms, agricultural chemical residue and veterinary drug residue.

The Ministry of Health will release the "Pre-packaged Food-Labeling Standards" and the "Safety Standards for Nutrition Labeling of Pre-packaged Foods."

Meanwhile, the ministry will also organize an overall review on the standards of rice, flour, edible oils and flavoring that are essential in people’s daily lives.

In addition, the ministry will strengthen the standardized advocacy training and the tracking assessment system to ensure food production units strictly observe the national food safety standards and consult opinions from food producers, sellers and consumers to constantly revise and improve the food safety standards.

At the same time, China will also accelerate the amendment of related laws to improve national food safety standards.
