China's former military leader passes away

Liu Huaqing, former vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, has died at the age of 95.
Liu died Friday morning of an illness, says a statement issued by the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Liu had been a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Joining the CPC in 1935, he was granted major general in 1955 and general in 1988.
The statement says Liu was a distinguished member of the CPC, a seasoned loyal Communist fighter, an outstanding proletarian revolutionist, politician and strategist, and an excellent leader of the Party, the state and the military.
