Employment rate of college grads reaches 90 percent

The average employment rate of college graduates for 2010 reached 90.7 percent, and the registered urban unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, according to a report released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China (MOHRSS) on Jan. 25.

In 2010, 11.6 million people found jobs in cities and towns. At the end of the year, China had nearly 9.1 million registered urban unemployed persons. In 2011, the number of college graduates nationwide will be 6.6 million.

Referring to the proposal put forward by the media that counties should encourage qualified migrant workers to settle in towns, Yin Chengji, spokesman of the MOHRSS said that it is an important practical issue. Many regions are undergoing active exploration of this question, and state departments are also conducting research and feasibility studies.

In terms of achievements in 2010, the ministry strengthened the distribution of wages in enterprises and adjusted the standard minimum wage. By the end of 2010, the country's 30 provinces had adjusted the standard minimum wage, and the average increase of the monthly minimum wage was nearly 23 percent.

In 2011, China will increase the level of social insurance benefits, implement various policies to support health care reform, promote real-time settlement of health care costs and actually issue 190 million social security cards.
