World Classroom brings world-class universities to China

The World Classroom teaching model, initiated by Peking University, has drawn a lot of attention from many world-class universities. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has petitioned to take a part in the project. In addition, another five leading universities in Europe, America and Asia have expressed a strong interest to join it.

The World Classroom Project, run by the College of Engineering of Peking University, launched its first experimental course in 2010 under the cooperation between Peking University and University of Southern California. This year, the World Classroom Project invited Edmund S. Phelps, winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Economics, to assist students in conducting innovative group projects.

Lu Zhiyang, member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, believes that the 21st-century talent cultivation should place more emphasis on broadening people's horizons than enriching their knowledge. The World-Classroom Project is aimed to help the young from all over the world to break down geographical boundaries and exchange academic views with each other freely.
