He Guoqiang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met here Monday evening with Raul Castro, second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

During the meeting, He, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, spoke highly of relations between the two parties and the two countries.

He, also secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers as they have supported and assisted each other in building socialism.

Cuba's assistance to China after the devastating May 12 earthquake, which hit southwestern China's Sichuan province, embodies the deep friendship between the two countries, He said, who arrived here late Sunday on a four-day visit.

He conveyed Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao's greetings to Raul Castro, who is also president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba.

The current Sino-Cuban relationship is the best in history, He said, adding that the new CPC leadership attaches importance to and treasures Sino-Cuban traditional friendship.

It is the unswerving guideline of the CPC and the Chinese government to continuously consolidate and develop friendly bilateral relations, He said.

He called on the two sides to continue high-level contacts and enhance exchanges at various levels and in different fields.

For his part, Raul Castro said Cuba appreciates China's support and assistance and attaches importance to learning from China's experience.

Cuba will continue to strengthen cooperation with China and promote the overall development of bilateral ties, he said.

After the meeting, He and Raul Castro attended a signing ceremony for a cooperative agreement between the two governments.

Cuba is the first leg of He's four-nation visit, which will also take him to Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Angola.
