China and Japan co-build shelter belts to protect sea coasts

Recently, the China Green Foundation and the Japan Association for Greening Deserts held a signing ceremony in the district of Dagang, Tianjin.

From then on, the Japan Association of Greening Deserts will help to build shelter belts to protect sea coasts in Tianjin's Dagang District, with funding from the Sino-Japan Non-government Plantation Foundation.

The shelter belts will be 10 km long, and cover 3,000 acres. The project, starting in 2008 and to last three years, is divided in to three phases. During each phase, every year, 1,000 acres will be built.

The Japanese side will fund 10 million yen per year for three consecutive years.
