Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) He Guoqiang met here Friday evening with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
He, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted the sound and steady momentum of the development of bilateral friendship and cooperation since China and Mauritius forged diplomatic ties 36 years ago.
Such momentum has been especially witnessed in recent years by the frequent exchanges of visits at various levels and smooth progress in cooperation with remarkable achievements in different fields between the two sides, said He, who is also secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC.
He, who is making a stopover here on his way home after a visit to Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Angola, also expressed his appreciation of Mauritius's adherence to the one-China policy.
The senior CPC leader hailed the historical contribution to developing China-Mauritius ties made by the Mauritian prime minister and his father Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the country's first head of cabinet after its independence in 1968 from Britain.
Ramgoolam, also leader of the Labor Party of Mauritius, said he will continue to push forward the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and between his party and the CPC.
The Mauritian leader, while recalling his visits to China, spoke highly of the marvelous achievement in China's development and the Chinese government's encouragement of Chinese enterprises for more investment in Africa.
The prime minister expressed his sympathies to the victims of the devastating May 12 earthquake in China's Sichuan province and of the recent flooding that hit southern China.
After the meeting, He and Ramgoolam attended a signing ceremony for agreements on bilateral economic and technical cooperation. Source: Xinhua
