Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Monday with Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Moeen Ahmed. He was here for the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony and relevant events.

Xi told the military chief, also the head of the Bangladesh Olympic Committee, that as close neighbors the two nations had experienced deepening political trust, a steady growth of economic relations and trade, and close cooperation on international occasions.

The countries established full diplomatic relations 33 years ago.

Xi stressed it was a set policy of China to strengthen and develop "full cooperative partnership relations" with Bangladesh.

For his part, Moeen said Bangladesh attached great importance to its relations with China and exchange with the Chinese army.

He stressed Bangladesh would continue its one-China policy and work with the country to deepen the friendship and cooperation.

Earlier on Monday, Moeen was met by Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie, also a state councilor.
