Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao is to attend an enlarged foreign ministerial meeting of the Group of Eight (G8) on June 26-27 in Trieste, Italy, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said here Tuesday.

Noting Song will make the trip as a guest of Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, Qin said the meeting will focus on issues of Afghanistan and the regional affairs.

Italy, which currently holds the G8's rotating presidency, will hold the G8 summit slated for this July.

The Group of Eight comprises Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
