Companies in Hong Kong have a real interest in exploring the Chilean market as a gateway to Latin America, CFI Executive Vice President Matias Mori said, adding that the new deal is the first of its kind and shows Chile's great potential.
Leading Hong Kong companies, whose principal investments are in Europe, have not invested much in South America so there is a great potential for growth in Chile, said Simon Galpin, head of InvestHK, Hong Kong's government investment arm.
According to CFI statistics, the levels of Asia's direct investment in Chile had been very low in the past, accounting for only 0.2 percent of the total investment inflow of 77.2 billion U.S. dollars from 1974 to 2010.
