Chinese charity assists Sudan to improve health care system for mothers, children

A Chinese charity organization has helped Sudan improve its maternity and family health care system, supporting the establishment of hospital in Abu Ushar, Gezira State.

China Foundation of Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) has joined a five-year charity program, which will donate 60 million yuan (9.3 million U.S. dollars) to equip Sudan with more advanced medical facilities and technologies.

The China-Sudan Abu Ushar Friendship Hospital, 140 kilometers south of Sudan's capital city of Khartoum, was the first project completed under the charity program, according to the CFPA.

He Daofeng, executive vice president of CFPA, said when addressing a CFPA-hosted ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the hospital's establishment that the charity program in Sudan will be extended to other African nations.

"The CFPA will give 200 million yuan over the next five years to international assistance programs," he said.

Now the CFPA is recruiting eight to 10 medical volunteers to work as doctors of obstetrics and gynaecology at Abu Ushar Friendship Hospital, according to a bulletin on the CFPA's official website.

Since 1971, China has sent around 29 health missions to Sudan offering medical care services to the local people there.
