Hong Kong stocks fell 333.46 points, or 1.8 percent to close at 18,165.3 on Tuesday, following overnight retreat of U.S. indexes.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened lower but soon edged up to the day high of 18,314.96 before losing over 639 points at one time in the morning trading. The market managed to achieve some gains but fell short of going into the positive.
Turnover was 76.49 billion HK dollars (about 9.88 billion U.S. dollars).
