Paramilitary soldiers and police were deployed Wednesday at Rojhan Mazari, a town in the eastern Pakistani province of Punjab, for the funeral of Abdul Rashid Ghazi, the deputy of the red mosque, Lal Masjid, who was killed Tuesday, local journalists said. Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Chaudhry Muhamamd Ali said that Ghazi's body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in the Pakistani capital for postmortem. Pakistani Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said that the dead body would be flown to Rojhan Mazari in a helicopter. Rojhan Mazari is situated in District Rajanpur of Punjab near the inter-provincial borders of Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab. Ghazi's sisters requested the government to bury his body near the grave of their father Maulana Abdullah near the seminary Jamia Hafsa affiliated to the red mosque. Maulana Abdullah was assassinated by unidentified gunmen in Oct, 1998 and was buried near the wall of the mosque compound. Reports said that relatives of Ghazi were asked to reach Basti Abdullah, a village 21 kilometers away from Rojhan Mazari. Ghulam Yasin, a relative of Ghazi told reporters that the authorities Tuesday night told the relatives of the burial in the hometown. Local correspondents said that a few other bodies would also be flown to the town, but the authorities have not yet identified them. They said that the paramilitary forces and police cordoned off the site of the funeral and would not allow the public and the media to reach the place.
