Spain's International Cooperation Agency (AECI) on Thursday sent more than 800,000 euros (1.1 million U.S. dollars) in aid to refugees in Lebanon. The AECI, which administers the national aid budget, said in a statement that it also delivered medical equipment and other materials to the refugees. The money grant would include 300,000 euros (412,830 dollars) for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which is based in the Palestinian territory; 300,000 euros for the United Nations Children's Fund; and 222,820 euros (306,623 dollars) shared between the Popular Aid for Relief and Development and Naba'a, the two Lebanese relief agencies. The medical equipment and other donations, including wheelchairs, mortuary bags and crutches -- were sent to the Lebanese capital Beirut on a commercial flight. They will be distributed at the Bedawwi and Naher el Bared refugee camps. The Spanish Embassy in Beirut will hand over the aid to the Lebanese Red Cross and Palestinian Red Crescent Societies.
