A suicide bombing killed an Afghan guard and injured four others working for foreign troops on Monday in southern Afghanistan, the police said. A suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Afghan trucks in Gereshk district of Helmand province, which was transferring logistics for international troops, provincial police chief Mohammad Hussain Andiwal told Xinhua.
No one has claimed responsibility, but Taliban militants have carried out similar attacks frequently. Helmand has been a stronghold of Taliban rebels, who attack government and foreign forces frequently. Due to rising Taliban insurgency, over 3,000 persons, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
