Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni Wednesday said that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert doesn't need to resign over State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss' scathing report, which criticized him for mishandling in the Second Lebanon War.

Livni made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, Israeli daily Ha' aretz said in its report.

"The government's job is to correct the mistakes revealed in the report, and we have begun doing so," Livni was quoted by the report as saying.

"The Defense Ministry has taken responsibility for the issue," she added in response to the doubts cast on Olmert's fate as prime minister.

Earlier in the day, Lindenstrauss submitted to Knesset ( parliament) Speaker Dalia Itzik a report on the preparedness and the functioning of the home front during last summer's war.

The report accused the Israeli leadership and army chiefs of mishandling the home front during the Second Lebanon War.

Following the release of the report, Knesset members(MK) across the political spectrum called on Olmert to step down over the report findings.

Moreover, both Likud and National Union-National Religious Party submitted no-confidence motions against Olmert Wednesday afternoon.
