A Kuwaiti military plane arrived in Beirut on Wednesday carrying 13 tons of relief aid to help those affected by the ongoing gunfight between the Lebanese army and Fatah al-Islam militants in north Lebanon. The aid is sent upon directives from the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to show solidarity with the Lebanese people, the state-run Kuwait News Agency reported. Coordinator of emergency management at the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Yousef Al-Mieraj was quoted as saying that the relief aid was handed to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). As the previous aid sent from Kuwait to Lebanon, the load will be distributed to the people who moved from Nahr al-Bared camp to Al-Baddawi camp, he said, adding that Kuwait will continue its relief aid to Lebanon. Al-Mieraj said two Kuwaiti military planes loaded with humanitarian aid will arrive in Beirut next week and trucks with 80-ton relief aid will enter Lebanon through Syria in the next couple of days. Kuwaiti aid to Lebanon since the Nahr al-Bared events began has reached 964 tons of food and medicine, the report said. Clashes between both sides have so far claimed the lives of scores of Lebanese troops and militants and forced over 35,000 residents of Nahar al-Bared, the site of violence, to leave their houses in a bid to save their lives.
