Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has sent a message of condolences to his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, following the air crash that occurred in Sao Paulo, official sources said Thursday.
"It's with great consternation and sadness that I learnt of the tragic accident, which occurred at the Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo claiming the life of more than 200 people," the president said in his message.
On behalf of the people and government of Algeria, the president expressed his "sincere condolences," while asking his Brazilian counterpart to transmit his "sentiments of profound sympathy and compassion" to the bereaved families at the same time. The accident in question occurred when an Airbus 320 passenger plane skidded on a flooded runway at the Congonhas airport and hit a building Tuesday leaving about 200 people dead.
