Voice of the Voiceless (VSV), a human rights organization based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), here Thursday converged in front of the parliament building to protest against the actions of Angolan security forces that are mistreating DRC's people.
The protest, which ended peacefully, was called to create awareness among the parliamentarians about the prevailing situation and a similar protest is planned to take place in front of the Angolan embassy in the DRC. During the protest, the participants submitted a petition letter to the speaker of the national assembly notably calling for the expulsion of the Angolan ambassador to the DRC for trivializing the cruel treatment that has been meted on DRC's people by his country's security forces. The petition was also copied to Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, according to the organizers of the protest.
DRC's parliament Wednesday adopted a report that was compiled by a parliamentary commission, which had visited Kahemba in the province of Bandundu, and confirmed the presence of Angolan security forces on DRC's territory.
