Pakistani President General Musharraf on Saturday said that conducive atmosphere was necessary for holding elections in the country.
Talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society ( APNS) in Islamabad, Musharraf said that the elections would be held under a caretaker government for which conducive economic and political environments were necessary.
Musharraf pledged that he would hold fair and transparent elections and if he was re-elected from the present assemblies he would also endorse his election from new assemblies.
Musharraf said opposition leaders including Benazir Bhutto, Altaf Hussain and Sharif brothers should not come to Pakistan before the general elections. The matter of Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of the country and the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, was in the court and let it decide the case, he said, adding that the agreement regarding their exile would be presented in the Supreme Court.
About the rumors of emergency rule in the country, Musharraf said he had received the proposal about emergency declaration but he did not sign it. However, he said that terrorism activities were rising in the country.
