Karl Rove, President George W. Bush's top political advisor, will resign at the end of this month, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
"I just think it's time," Rove said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on Monday.
"There's always something that can keep you here and, as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family."
As the White House deputy chief of staff, Rove was nicknamed "the architect" by the president for designing the strategy that twice won him the White House.
Rove has held the senior post in the White House since Bush took office in January 2001.
